WOW! Congratulations to Todd Grantham and Mad Anthony Brewing for their gold medal at The Great American Beer Festival in Denver. Competing against 48 entries in the American-Style Amber Lager category, Mad Anthony's Auburn Lager “takes home the Gold”. This is the second time their Auburn Lager has won a medal, winning silver in 1999. With 1552 breweries at this year’s festival, Gold Medals are very tough to come by. What a great honor for Mad Anthony Brewing and Fort Wayne.
Looks like we are going to have great weather, and a lot of beers to try at today's 6th annual DEER PARK CRAFT BEER FESTIVAL

I Just got back from one of the best BCCA CANvention’s ever. Many thanks to “BEER DAVE” and all of the committee members for the work that goes into this huge brewery collectibles show. With 700 trade tables and 800+ BCCA members in attendance, it was hard to see everything. The venue was perfect…though it looked odd seeing hundreds of collectors wearing beer t- shirts and hats roaming the very formal, historic grand old Hilton. I left Milwaukee with several new breweriania pieces for the collection, a lot of new friends, and the feeling that the hobby is as strong as ever.
If you have any photos you would like to post, please send them to me. Photos and videos HERE

Three Rivers Chapter members and guests,

Please fill free to attend, here you will find friendship with others that share your interest in craft beer and brewery collectibles. We are the Fort Wayne Chapter of the http://www.BCCA.com Brewery Collectibles Club of America. Our club was originally formed back in the early 70s, by a group of local area beer can collectors. Membership now primarily consists of craft beer enthusiasts that collect anything and everything beer related, with a few history nerds and home-brewers mixed in. We conduct a social gathering on the third Thursday of each month at various locations in and around Fort Wayne. Our meetings are very casual with usually 20+ members attending and 20+ beers to taste. Food, pop and water are also available. For the past 40 years we have conducted a craft beer and brewery collectibles show on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This years event will be held November 28th, at the Classic Café, 4832 Hillegas Rd. I hope you can attend.
Sincerely, Mike Newton Secretary, Three Rivers Chapter of BCCA
Birdboy Brewing Co.
Glasses up craft beer enthusiasts. Birdboy Brewing Co. is brewing to opening later this summer on Fort Wayne’s north side. Last winter I ventured out on a very cold night to meet with Ben Thompson, the owner and brewer, behind Birdboy Brewing. My first question was, "what’s with the name Birdboy?" Ben’s reply was, “I’m a license pilot and aviation buff. I have always admired Fort Wayne’s legendary pilot Art Smith, also known as the bird boy. Opening a brewery has been an aspiration of mine, since I fell in love with home brewing, and I bring with me the enthusiasm Art took to the sky.”
Ben has leased a building on Collins Drive just north of Glenbrook Mall. Permits and equipment are a work in progress, but he hopes to be open later this summer. This will be a 7 barrel production brewery, and Ben plans to self distribute kegs to area bars and restaurants. A tap room with growler fills, may soon follow. Look for Birdboy Brewing at this summer’s craft beer events, and check back here often for progress updates. For more info about Birdboy Brewing Co. HERE
